Good thing or bad thing?

What do you think it would be like if television had never been invented? Would it be a good thing or a bad thing? What if we suddenly didn't have television available any more? Would it be a good thing or a bad thing? What do you think about this?

I think if TV had never been invented it would be a good thing in many ways--not so much commercialism, not so much carnal knowledge. not so much worldly invasion into personal and family life. But it could be bad too--no immediate news info, no immediate weather info, no access to scientific and social things, no "how to" programs (i.e. cooking, sewing, home decor, animal care). And the science that led to the television was the foundation for computers, etc. Could we live without it all? Probably not easily at this point.

Hmmm. I like TV. But, we didn't have cable up until last year. I think I liked our life a little more when there was less on TV.

Thanks for visiting my blog! I've liked coming to yours. I can always use more inspiration.

A good thing. Haven't had one in years. We get a lot done without it. The children survived without it. But I must say I had to go cold turkey and it was really hard.

People would be more social and have more talents developed and stuff like that. Maybe be better spoken? and all that...you know hee, hee.

I vote good thing. Three years ago I was addicted to watching crime shows on tv. We don't get cable so I was watching fuzzy crime shows. I just liked solving the mystery, but I started to feel convicted because I started planning my evenings on which crime shows were on. I quit cold turkey. I stopped watching tv all together and it was good for me. I had more time to read :) Must confess though the other night my husband fell asleep watching the news and I sat down in the living room and a crime show came on and I watched it. The good thing was that I was able to turn the tv off before I found out what was coming on next.

It is better for me not to watch tv and the news is usually quite depressing. I remember during 9-11 and the sniper attacks they just kept showing the same clips over and over and I just kept watching them over and over hoping to learn something new. I think it all grieves the Lord. I know there can be useful things on tv also, but since we don't have cable we don't get them...

I read an article in the early 60's about a thief that comes in and steals your Bible, books, time with your family, etc. It was talking about television. That was true then and is still true. Well said, for someone who watches television quite a bit (me, that is).

I think if there was no TV, people would have to do what we did when we were kids and that is to read more, play games with the family, and find other creative things to do. However, I do enjoy watching the old programs on TV (Andy Griffith, Little House on the Prairie, etc.).

I think it would be a good thing...my kids are always more creative and full of imagination when we do not have cable/TV time. I find that I am too. More book reading..and more time with the children. We are actually canceling cable soon...I will MISS HGTV...

I wonder how much TV plays into reaching people with the gospel.
